ART: the act of expressing oneself creatively.
Art matters, because contrary to popular opinion it is not a canvas gathering dust in a museum, or a penniless writer scavaging for crumbs in a library basement, or, least of all, something with a price tag. At Artist of Tomorrow, our first goal is to dispel the belief that art is an obscure creation belonging to elitists or an irrelevant frivolity entertained only by outcasts and deviants.
Nietzsche once said, "Art is the highest task and proper metaphysical activity of this life." What he meantand we agreeis, art comes from the very act of living. It is universal because it embodies the desire to capture and express our individual experiences and, in that way, opens a window to our true selves. Anybody who has ever felt misunderstood or fought for his or her autonomy is inherently an artist, even if that person is incapable of creating a deceptively pretty object for the public to adore.
Artist of Tomorrow values the beliefs, hopes, and identity of each and every individual as art, and we want to create an environment where those with something to say can be inspired to actualize their beliefs. In recognition of the human need to communicate something significant, we have set out to create local chapters, which provide a network of artists who will offer encouragement and feedback; increase public awareness of art through a series of projects; provide resources for artists to develop on a technical level; and partner with other entities to offer more opportunities for publication, promotion, and exposure.
Our ultimate goal is to harness art's power to communicate to heal individual relationships and break down barriers of prejudice, ignorance, and hate. We want to help people develop a healthier sense of self, open their minds to the experiences and beliefs of others, and join together to create significant social change.
